Jiufen Photoshoot Ideas: How I Shoot Travel Portraits Beyond the Old Street

Jiufen Photographer

A Photographer's Way of Seeing Jiufen, Beyond Jishan Street and Shuqi Road

Alongside the classic views, I also look for the quieter moments in between for my Jiufen photo-shoot session:

mountain light, sea views, side alleys and the small details of your journey.
These are portraits with a little more room to breathe — photos that feel like your own trip, where your personality stands out.

Let the mountain town frame you

I like to use its surrounding mountains, sea views and changing light to create a more natural travel story — walking, wandering, and letting the surroundings become part of the photograph.

Look for Quiet Corners

Where should I take photos in Jiufen?
Travel portrait doesn't need to show every famous landmark.

Can you get good photos in Jiufen when it's crowded?

Yes. Jiufen's old street is rarely empty, and I don't wait for it to be. While the crowd keeps moving, you stay still, so the people around you turn into soft trails of motion and the market lights glow behind you.

05.

The old brick wall 山城沿路的紅磚牆

Where can you get a more editorial photo in Jiufen?

Just off the old street, a single red lantern and an old brick wall are enough.
I love keeping fewer elements in the frame, so the focus shifts to you. The photo feels more fashion-forward and lets your outfit stand out.

Looking for a hidden spot over the sea?

Just above the old street, Hima Café looks out across the hills to the open sea. It's one of my favorite places to slow down in Jiufen.

In the late afternoon, the soft side light and the quiet terrace make it easy to capture natural, relaxed portraits, far from the crowds below.

THE ROAD TO BUYAN PAVILION 不厭亭公路

Going higher: the view from Buyan Pavilion

For those who want to go further, the extended session continues up the mountain road to Buyan Pavilion (不厭亭).
From above, the whole hillside town of Jiufen spreads out below, with Keelung Mountain and the sea beyond.
It's a wide, open view that few visitors ever climb to, and a completely different side of Jiufen from the lantern-lit lanes.
